Should we define someone by their actions or their intentions?

I think you have to consider both.
True actions are observable, but the end result may not be as we intended.
Say I killed you in the process of giving CPR.
Crushed your chest.
I did kill you, but my intent was to provide aid.
Did I murder you or was I negligent?
Who knows?
